Silent yet Loud

During my free time at home, I started watching noir flicks and nothing else. By just simply watching these movies makes me feel refreshed from all the CGI-rendered movies of today. In terms of technological difference, it’s pretty much obvious who wins that category (just seeing Flash Gordon’s spaceship breaks me into laughter, also the flying dog that i saw at one of Charlie Chaplin’s flicks ).

My first round of noir is all pure silent movies (and only prompt cards shows their one or two sentences) But their are still a few sound effects and an orchestra as a background music. Then talkies, which really amazes me because the movie industry then really enjoys their first few years of spoken word in their movies (a LOT of fast-talking actors and actresses, a LOT of song numbers).

As of this writing, i am still half finished watching the silent flicks and barely half finished in the talkies. I still have a ton of DVD’s to watch.

So far, Charlie Chaplin’s role as The Tramp, you know, the flat-footed, scruffy, Hitler-inspired moustache (but hey, Hitler got his trademark moustache during World War II. Chaplin’s already filming at mid-1920’s-1930’s, maybe he got the idea at Charlie Chaplin!) and always had the funny top hat and cane with him. I rated him as one of the best actor i’ve known in the golden era of film. Even without a dialogue, he can show the audience what’s running on his mind. And man, his actions and how he delivered  really fascinated me, i’ve never known any actors of today that can act like him.

Oh how I wish that I can go back to the past.

Chaos is like gravity; it only takes a little push…..

Seeing the ads for the Dark Knight for quite a time, really pushed by curiousity. Not just because it’s Heath Ledger’s last movie (I only knew this guy as Cassanova and a “Cowboy”) and his role as the Joker. Batman is not one of my favourite with Joker as an excemption.

As I watch the Dark Knight, I was amazed by its storyline, it was a dark yet fantastic story. They showed why Batman is an anti-hero and shows that he has not bounds, limits, or rules.

But the real reason why i liked the movie so much, is how they bring out Joker’s real identity: A Harbringer of Chaos. Compared to how Jack Nicholson and Cesar Romero potrayed the Joker, the Joker Heath Ledger potrayed, is way darker, sadistic, and chaotic. This Joker doesn’t care about money, fame, or power. He only wants to prove one thing: That even  a simple law-abiding citizen can induce chaos and destruction with just a little push. He had proven that through Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two Face.

It may shown to the movie that Joker’s crazy, but they’ve shown how he formulate plans. And I also liked the part when he was being question by the Dark Knight himself. Joker reveled to his punches, laughing the true maniac that he is. He even told Batman that “he completes him” so that’s why the Joker didn’t bother to pursue Batman’s true identity; he know just wants bring Batman down his own level; like he did to Dent.

I really liked the Dark Knight, if i had my ways, I change the title to a Joker-themed title. But it is just me. Ledger really deserves an Oscar for his performance. He really potrayed the Joker that i’ve been looking for. What a great way to end to his career.

Independence Tripping

Posted in Uncategorized on June 13, 2008 by aftercallabuser

Two days ago, we celebrated the Indepencence Day. So knowing that, i did recall that our local railway system always have this free trip which they implemented on all their three lines (LRT1, MRT, LRT2) in a specified time period. This is always a yearly tradition for me to ride all of them, all round-trip to totall enjoy my ride. So knowing that they only give free rides at 7am-9am and 5pm-7pm, I planned my trip.

First off, the Lrt Line 1 which routes Baclaraan-Monumento. I hopped on at around 7:30am, since that time is a bit of a rush hour deal and even though it is a holiday, all people, student or worker, still have to go to work since they have their rest last monday (because our dear president moved the rest day for the Idenpendence Day last monday, yet still celebrate it on its true date) and especially because the ride is free, a lot of people aside of me abused such privilege of a free ride (of course, who wouldn’t? The ride is air-conditioned, fast, and accessible). I started at Quirino (the station closest to my place) and the train stopped at the Monumento Terminal, so i went to the other side to ride the Monumento-Baclaraan route. And compared the Baclaraan-Monumento route, the train bound to Baclaraan is much, much crowded as i ever imagined. The feeling is comparable to the daily route of the subway trains in Japan, minus the middle-aged gropers (maybe a little bit less). So a trip goes, every station we go, it get more jam-packed, a claustrophobic’s nightmare, caused everyone is so close that even microbes will have difficulty passing through.

Train finally stopped at Baclaraan, finally, i was able to breathe normally! So since I still have an hour to spare, I hopped on the MRT which goes at a route of Taft Avenue, Pasay  to North Avenue, Quezon. Compared to my experience at the Lrt Line 1, this one is helluvalot worse! At the Taft Avenue Terminal alone, whew! it is like going for a line for the NFA rice distribution. It took me about 10-20 mins just for me to finally board the train. And I finally went back after an hour.

Since it is already 9am, I was not able to ride the last one the LRT Line 2. So i have to wait until 5pm to ride it for free. So I went to my aunt’s place in Bulacan to unwind for a while and waited until 5pm to ride the last one.

5pm, finally! i went first to ride the LRT line 1 and dropped off at the connecting station of LRT Line 1 to LRT Line 2 and hopped in. Compared to the first two, i finally have my own breathing space (maybe because there are still few passengers or maybe the train is just bigger) yet i was able to complete all three lines. And I will still do this as long that they’re still running…Hahaha!

Stolen Moments

Posted in Uncategorized on June 3, 2008 by aftercallabuser

Whew, its been a long time since i went back, due to the constant queue of calls, my relationship, and other things that keeps me preoccupied.

Every now and then, i accompany my girlfriend on her way to work. You know the deal, pick her up from her place, eat here and chat there and cuddle everywhere. Its quite a fun and romantic experience.

These moments are indeed stolen, because as a call center agent; working on graveyard shifts, receiving a helluva lot of calls really tires me down. But when i’m with her, I get a quick boost of energy as if i didn’t went to work.

That’s how wonderful she is. I think to myself as one of the luckiest guys in the world. That’s why I love her.

Walk without a cause

Posted in Uncategorized on May 11, 2008 by aftercallabuser

Last thursday out of pure boredom, a thought came in; “Is it possible to walk from my office to my house?” Imagine, Our office is located at Quezon Avenue (near ABS-CBN), and my humble abode is at Malate, Manila so the distance between them is unquestionably far especially if you’re only going to walk.

But the daredevil within me go ahead and pushed through with my little expedition….

2:00-2:30pm- I thought to myself that going to need all the strength that i can muster, so i went to a friendly neighborhood drinking hole (Talyer) for a quick drink. Luckily, i was not alone, I saw my co-workers drowning themselves with beer, so i join in. After a few rounds and a talk, We all went on with our lives…..for me it is just the beginning

2:30-3:30- I started walking to my goal, underneath the scorching sun, belching all the way as i walk, i noticed that traffic’s a bit heavy and i felt a wee bit hungry so i stopped by fish ball cart to buy a few sticks and a glass of gulaman to kill the alcohol aftertaste in my tongue. And as i ate, i saw a minor vehicular accident involving a middle-ageish guy and a taxi, much for me and a few patron’s amazement we heard a loud screeching noise and befold! We saw the poor guy flew from the bumper and his poor backside smacked with asphalt. Luckily, the taxi driver went out of his taxi and assisted the guy to his taxi and maybe rushed him to a nearest hospital. Which in the first place is the pedestrian’s fault, lucky him he was not a “hit and run” victim. After I gulped down my drink, I walked on. And at 3:30pm I found myself at the former location of Mister Kebab at West Triangle.

3:30 pm-4:30 pm- Walking for almost an hour really takes a toll in my body, add to that the scorching sun, the uneven surfaces and my body getting tired. But it’s quite invigorating! As I walk by, i was mind-fucked by a train of random thoughts. At exactly 4:00pm, I found myself at Welcome Rotonda….and still going. I can feel the fatigue already. And my left leg is starting to cramp, so i slowed my pace to relax it a bit. And at around 4:30pm I was now at Recto-Quiapo…ahhh..I’m already halfway to my goal.

4:30pm-5:30pm- My dogs are already yapping, stomach’s grumbling, legs cramping; I said to myself that I need to rest for a while. So I went (yup still walking) towards SM Manila for a quick pitstop. So after a round of takoyaki and buko pandan, I went to the arcades for a quick breather. And after that, went to the bathroom for a change of clothes. Half-charged and ready to go, I continued my walk towards home….

5:30pm-6:30 pm- So I continued my walk, at aroung 5:45-6:00 pm i found myself at Pedro Gil-PWU. So i quicken my pace so that I can be at my house at around 6:30 pm. As I walk, I felt a bit of enjoyment and fulfillment cause i was able to prove myself  that I was able to travel that far by foot. All the aches and fatigued were gone, maybe its the endorphine pumping in my body. It feels so good. Hahaha

After that, I’m planning a different one, but that’s it for now.

Evil Personified

This guy is just plain sick….

The guy’s name is Josef Fritzl, you can google him if you wanted.

What he did?

Imagine….Raping your own daughter for 24 years? Too common? How about this…

Being raped and hiding her in a dungeon (i do mean it, windowless, lightless dungeon)

And not only her daughter suffer this such treatment, her family is also locked in in different dungeon within his own home….

when he opens his daughter’s “dungeon” he only does two things:

Either provided her with food or she provided him with his unsatiable appetite for flesh.

Thank goodness this bastard for a father is now locked-up.

But locking him up is not enough…

Stark-castrophe….yet so cool

I watched Ironman two days ago with my co-workers. This movie anticipated me last year cause i can finally see the real steel (or gold-plated palladium and other metallic composite to be exact). As days, months past prior they shown a lot of teasers to keep asking for more. Now that I finally saw the movie, there was a mix of fulfillment and disappointment.

Let’s start with the fulfillment part of my experience…

Everything aspect of the armor is so cool, i mean even the Mark I looks so complicated (even though it was just quickly-made out of military surplus parts and heck! he even created a operating system for it!) and take note, that they created Mark I on a cave! The sheer genius of Tony Stark amazes me. Even underneath the debonair, happy-go-lucky, alcoholic (of course) wise-ass; hides a true genius! He created a miniature Arc generator for his weakened heart while at captivity. Don’t even get me started at the Mark II and the Mark III armors! Every aspect of the movie fulfilled my techy heart. The movie’s chuckfull of technology! Even Iron Monger makes me drool! XD!

Here’s the disappointed part…

The movie is much like a miniature “war” movie, shows how War runs. Big corporations, funding both sides? how realistic! But they really point out how the war of US with the islamic countries. Which made me a bit disappointed, even though we are fresh from the previous conflicts. We don’t need to see it again and again…But hey, thats one of the ingredients for a smash hit!

Also, a lot was not depicted from the comics. And I mean a LOT, but i’ll keep it to myself. But if Stan Lee agrees, i have not objection since he co-produce and written the movie. But hey! Ever Ironman fan knows that Stark’s true enemy is his alcoholism! Maybe in the sequel, they will show how alcohol will break Stark down.

The movie shaken a lot of new perspective and beliefs. First off, War sells (definitely). Technology really helps to bring our beloved heroes (and villains, of course) to life.

Despite all the hussle, I am still excited for the sequel (which will definitely happen) C’mon Spidey has 3 movies already, so is Xmen (well going to 3, but Logan decided he wants to hog the screen) So we’re definitely sure we will see Stark and Mark III again…

Memento of a father….

Do you have one? Is it so important that you can’t just lend it so someone cause you fear that he/she might lose it? Mementos means a lot to me knowing that I am a Libran which can be quite sentimental and materialistic. Mementos are like extensions of the person that kept it or gave it to someone to show how they appreciate their life as a human being.

Giving or even just lending it to someone is quite difficult, it takes a lot of trust, love, care.

And losing it……is another story.

Alms….bread please….

Posted in Rice, bread, government, hunger on April 27, 2008 by aftercallabuser

Rice…..sigh…..this is now a big issue here in the Philippines. The common staple is now turning a luxury to some. Since there was a “shortage” so every drastic measure was implemented to help the starving kids and families. First there was this discounted rice but only for a specific time. I always notice this every morning. Long lines of people waiting to buy rice. Even I felt the gradually increasing price of rice.

Now, i’ve checked the news, and now the government is now implementing “People’s Bread” program. This program is pretty much the same as the limited distribution and selling of rice, these give filipino access to low-priced pandesal (a filipino morning bun) and Pan (much like a pullman loaf). Which I thought is a bit convenient. But filipinoes are die-hard fans of rice, nothing can change that. And if ever, what will it look like? will the bread be appropriate with its price? Cause I always buy and eat pandesal before i go to work; the pandesal i buy at our corner bakery cost 2 pesos per piece yet its so small that you can eat it straight without even chewing it. So i can imagine how big the discounted pandesal will be…..

I want to speak to a supervisor……

I really want to start my blog with a bang, but a lot of thoughts came gushing in my noggin which give a temporary blogger’s block. I mean, i have a lot say. So let me start this with my current relationship (with my GF, thank God!)

Starting a relationship (i mean the intimate kind, you know, saying (or texting) mushy poems, singing a song or two, almost giving all the works!) gave a lot of perspective in life, it has this feeling that you may hear from movies (butterflies flying inside your stomach…you know the “corny” stuff that us guys hate to be with) That is exactly my situation right now. It may have its ups and downs, but i think its all worth it.

Even the courting is kinda funny, i mean i may be the “in-house” therapist for my friends that tells me all their problems, rants, raves, anything under the sun. But when i was in the center of these “situations”, i instantly became a big doofus at it! (Ha! In my face! Mr. know-it-all!)

I may rate myself as the “Nice Guy” that tries to put my girl in the podium and worship her with all my will, and do almost everything. But i was wrong, as far as i know “Nice Guys” always end up with nothing. Reason why is that the girl you wanted sees you as a “brother” cause you care for her a lot, always concerned about her well being. So in the end, the poor “Nice” guy always had this coming to them:

Guy: You know (Girl), the reason why i care for you so much is that i really, really loved you. And you’re my inspiration to my life. I really hope that we can be together.

Girl: Thank you for your honesty, but i only see you as a “friend”, I hope that i didn’t hurt your feelings, but i wish this won’t change. you’re such a gentleman. you actually possess the qualities that women look for. unfortunately, we can only be friends; nothing less, nothing more. im sorry i never meant to hurt you, i feel bad cause im the first one to break ur heart. but when people get hurt, we learn from the experience, we move forward and choose to be happy.

(Ka-boom) that’s were the bomb landed

That my “first” and “last” on my first attempt for a relationship…

Then she came in….

despite trying to recover, i really needed someone that can bring the spark back to my life. Then I met her. She really brighten up my day every time she texted or called me. She gave me a “jump start”, and it feels like i was sent back to infantile! ^_^

This time around, I am really giving it my all to her, and she does the same. for this time being, i cherish all the time i’m with her. I’ll show her how i love my girl; with all my soul and all….
